Manbat's Guildford Branch was the result of the acquisition of Auto Battery Services (Guildford) in 2005. ABS had operated as a specialist battery retailer for over fifty years and is not just well known but famous in Surrey for the excellence of the service and the skills and knowledge of its proprietors Les Blackburn and Brian Mitchell.
Brian retired in 2005 but Les continued to work with Manbat, successfully growing the business so that within eighteen months the original premises on Recreation Road were far too small. In the summer of 2007 the branch moved to excellent new premises on the Riverside Business Centre, Walnut Tree Way, Guildford.
The branch now distributes far beyond its locality, as far as Kent in the East and Wiltshire in the West. In October 2007 Les who has successfully steered the branch for the past two years retired from active management though he remains very active at the branch. The new manager of Guildford is Mark Pemberton who served as Assistant Branch Manager at Chesterfield for eighteen months previously.
